Adam Johnston, RMTAdam has his Massage Diploma from Kikkawa College and a BSc in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo.
Since opening Perform Well with his wife, Miranda Tomenson, he has been establishing a foothold in the neighbourhood and continues to do so today. The most common issues Adam sees and treats at the clinic are the following: neck and shoulder discomfort, headache pain, lower back pain, numbness/tingling of the hands and arms and/or legs and feet, post-natal, Covid-related physical stress, and general relaxation. Adam has spent many years in the endurance sports world as both a participant and primarily as a coach. He is adept at working with the athletic population, no matter what their level or sport is. And this includes providing massage services for these individuals. |
Movement Analysis with Adam
Many of our aches and pains are a result of our bodies not moving the way they are meant to move. The less things move the way they should, the more discomfort, pain, and physical dysfunction arises.
Traditional massage therapy typically aims to reduce tension and promote relaxation throughout the patient’s body. As opposed to being focused on maintaining and improving the patient’s ability to move. However, by using the tools and techniques available to the massage therapist, the therapist can shift their focus to the assessment, maintenance and/or improvement of a patient’s ability to move.
RMT Adam is working on developing his skills in this movement-based form of massage therapy. And he requires volunteers to practice on. Would be interested? Here’s what would be involved should you choose to volunteer:
- sessions are 30 minutes long
- no cost or fee, other than your time
- you can attend one session only, or you can attend as many sessions as you’d like (though no more frequently than weekly)
- you remain clothed throughout the session (but are required to wear loose-fitting or flexible clothing)
- your movement will be assessed in a variety of ways, none of which are extreme, dangerous, painful or uncomfortable
- attempts will be made to improve areas of restricted movement using a variety of techniques and tools such as stretching, muscular contractions, and various movements. None of which are extreme, sudden, painful or uncomfortable.
These sessions are not intended to replace your regular massage therapy appointments. Please budget these sessions over and above your already-scheduled massage appointments.
